JD — the work
About the role
You would own product features from idea to deployment on a small, flat engineering team that has no PMs, no standups, and few meetings. The work centers on AI agent workflows and the building blocks behind long-running clinical reasoning for large health systems. It is mostly backend (about 65/35 backend to frontend), with around a third of your time on brand-new features and very little maintenance.
What you'll do
- Own features all the way from concept and design to build and release, without product managers
- Develop the agent building blocks and AI workflows behind dependable, long-running clinical reasoning at large health systems
- Divide your week about evenly between producing code and design review, planning, and weighing architecture against user impact
- Work about 65% backend and 35% frontend across Python, Rust, TypeScript, React, Kubernetes, and AWS
- Work async in a small, flat engineering group with no silos, few meetings, and shared ownership of the product
- Learn what clinicians actually need by talking with them and end users and listening to customer call recordings
What they're looking for
- Between 2 and 8 years as a software engineer, with 4 to 6 as the sweet spot
- A clear high point in your track record: an elite school, fast promotions, early startup growth, or a top-tier team
- Enjoyment of owning outcomes and thinking about the product as a whole
- Strong Python skills for backend-heavy systems work
Nice to have
- Prior background working in healthcare or health tech
- Working exposure to Rust in real projects
- Time at a platform company during a period of rapid growth
