JD — the work

About the role

You would join a tight-knit backend team building robust, scalable services and APIs for a real estate platform whose users include tenants, vendors, property investors, and internal operations staff. Day to day you would work alongside product, design, and frontend engineers on problems in leasing, accounting, maintenance, and sales, writing simple, readable code. The role is remote, with the core team based in Texas and whiteboarding done both in person and remotely.

What you'll do

  • Design and build backend services and APIs that hold up at very large scale
  • Work across product, design, and frontend to solve problems that need to scale
  • Write multi-threaded code that takes full advantage of multi-core servers
  • Debug issues and fix performance bottlenecks across the stack
  • Turn both detailed specs and loose requirements into working features
  • Take part in GitHub peer reviews and whiteboarding sessions, in person or remote

What they're looking for

  • 5 to 7 years of backend development experience
  • Deep grounding in algorithms and data structures
  • A track record of debugging tough problems and removing performance bottlenecks
  • Comfort with Java, MySQL, and AWS, plus some React and CSS
  • Care for concise, readable code and good judgment about when to favor rigor versus speed
  • A startup mindset, empathy for users, and a collaborative spirit
