About the role
You would lead and expand the AI engineering organization at a fast-growing, venture-backed insurance AI startup, owning the group that builds production LLM agents for critical insurance workflows. The plan is to scale the org into three teams covering AI platform, agent quality, and customer-facing agent products. Because the founders are engineers, this leader has real say in product direction while staying hands-on in code and architecture. The role is on-site in San Francisco, and visa sponsorship is available.
What you'll do
- Build the org out into three groups: AI platform, agent quality and evals, and customer-facing agent products
- Define the technical approach for dependable production agents that handle real customer money, covering routing and orchestration
- Recruit, develop, and keep a strong AI engineering team, hiring the managers below you as the org grows
- Keep writing code and shaping architecture so you lead from the front
- Expand the limits of agent capabilities in insurance as the technology advances
