About the role
A hands-on engineering leader who acts as the CTO's right hand, leading a distributed team yet still writing production code about half the time. You would own critical work on platform architecture, security and compliance, and infrastructure spend for software that runs waste hauling businesses. It fits a person with experience leading a small startup team of under ten who likes messy business workflows, vertical software, and serving blue-collar customers.
What you'll do
- Lead a distributed team across the US, Latin America, and Europe and handle all people management as the CTO's backup
- Lead the SOC 2 certification and raise the bar on security and engineering practices
- Architect multi-tenant customization so big enterprise accounts can have per-customer feature setups
- Track infrastructure costs, AI token spend, and production metrics such as PRs, releases, and incidents
- Split your time roughly evenly between hands-on engineering and managing people
- Ship production code yourself, side by side with your team
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience managing a team of fewer than ten engineers in a startup or scale-up setting
