JD — the work
About the role
You would lead the team that designs the custom electronics at the heart of the company's first commercial microreactor, owning the architecture of the reactor control electronics while managing and growing a group of electrical engineers. It is a very hands-on management job for someone who wants to keep their hands on the hardware, working alongside a principal electronics engineer with real say over hiring, design standards, architecture, qualification, and the team's growth. Longer term, the work may extend to reactors for space.
What you'll do
- Hire, mentor, and manage electrical engineers, handling performance reviews and resource plans for the team
- Set the overall electronic design of the reactor's control hardware
- Take mixed-signal and analog boards from requirements and schematics through fabrication, bring-up, qualification, and service in the field
- Define electrical specs covering noise, precision, input ranges, thermal limits, reliability, interfaces, and environmental conditions
- Steer the design of sensor interfaces, fast data converters, signal processing, digital comms, and quiet analog front ends
- Run qualification and acceptance tests on internally designed boards, and lead failure analysis, root-cause work, and fixes
- Work with mechanical, manufacturing, controls, and embedded teams to fit electronics into the full reactor, and brief executives
What they're looking for
- 10 to 18 years of electronics engineering experience
- Experience managing and developing electrical engineers while staying technically hands-on
- Ability to guide a team through the full hardware lifecycle, from requirements to field operation
- Ability to explain design choices, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to executives
- Willingness to work on-site in Los Angeles
