About the role
As the first engineer, you would own everything technical: build and ship the first version yourself, then hire and lead others once the company starts growing. The product is a set of AI agents that work through real government websites for everyday people, which means handling logins, multi-factor authentication, and brittle multi-step flows reliably. It is a chance to lay the technical foundation for a consumer business with very large ambitions, in a hybrid setup based in San Francisco.
What you'll do
- Build agents that get through live government websites from start to finish, coping with sign-ins, MFA, and sessions
- Put the first product in front of real users, converting extensive research into something that works
- Build the security and trust layer that protects users' government logins, Social Security numbers, and payment details
- Choose the stack, tools, and architecture, and decide what to build in-house versus buy
- Recruit and manage engineers two through five as the team takes shape
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of engineering experience, ready to act as both founding engineer and engineering lead
- Ability to ship a first product on your own before building a team around it
- Experience with Python, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and AWS or GCP
- Care and rigor when handling sensitive personal and financial data
- Availability for a hybrid setup in San Francisco
