JD — the work
About the role
You would be an early engineer, the third on the team, working with the CTO to expand the product, prepare the systems for growth, and make key architecture calls as the company heads toward its Series A. The role is full-stack but backend-heavy, about 70% backend and 30% frontend, shipping new products end to end. The company protects homeowners from insurance premium spikes, is growing revenue quickly, and works in person in New York four days a week.
What you'll do
- Ship complete features, mainly server-side APIs, data flows, and services, with lighter frontend work
- Help take the auto coverage offering from beta to general availability and integrate new products into the core platform
- Own infrastructure and architecture choices, from DevOps practices to scaling and the long-run shape of the system
- Create internal tools so teammates outside engineering can fix problems on their own, freeing engineers from tickets
- Lean on AI coding assistants to ship quickly on both backend and frontend
What they're looking for
- 3 to 12+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong backend skills in Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL, plus working knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Next.js
- Comfort with ambiguity and a strong product mindset
- Self-starting drive: you act on problems before anyone asks
- Willingness to work from the New York office four days a week
