JD — the work
About the role
This applied research role advances the clinical intelligence at the center of the product. You would take open-ended healthcare AI problems, scope them tightly, solve them, and ship the results to production, working on evals, fine-tuning, agent systems, and models that drive browsers and computers. The company is seed-stage, backed by top-tier venture firms, and focused on bringing AI to the administrative side of healthcare payments, an area that badly needs it.
What you'll do
- Design clinical evals measuring how models read charts, review claims, apply authorization rules, analyze denials, and interpret payer policy
- Raise model quality with better prompts, fine-tuning, retrieval, and structured reasoning, tested on actual clinical and financial records
- Develop agents that operate browsers and desktop apps to work through payer websites, EHRs, and other clinical software
- Convert what customers report from real workflows into tightly scoped research questions, then put the answers into production
- Work with backend and customer-facing engineers to get research gains into the product quickly
What they're looking for
- 3+ years of experience in research engineering or applied ML
- A track record of scoping open-ended problems and shipping the solutions to production
- Hands-on work with LLM evaluation, fine-tuning, retrieval, or agentic systems
- Strong Python skills for research and production code
- Readiness to work on-site in the South Bay
