JD — the work
About the role
This is a hands-on lead role, roughly 75% individual contribution and 25% technical leadership of a small pod, with a clear route to Head or VP of Engineering. You would ship the product work that carries the platform past early traction toward self-serve growth and act as the technical anchor of the engineering team. You would partner closely with the CTO on architecture, working on-site in New York at a company that helps B2B teams decide which existing customers to prioritize and how to expand them.
What you'll do
- Ship product improvements that let the platform run without founders hand-delivering every deployment
- Own architecture decisions and rework existing systems together with the CTO
- Build your own agent-driven development tooling to raise the whole team's shipping speed
- Lead two or three engineers through mentorship and sprint planning, growing into people management
- Help plan the machine learning and product direction, such as training custom models and building agent pipelines
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of engineering, at most about 3 of them purely managing, and still shipping code today
- A genuinely AI-native workflow, with custom agent-driven tooling and multi-agent orchestration you can demo in detail
- Solid applied ML grounding, from classical algorithms and data science practice to well-formed views on how LLMs are trained
- Full-stack ability in Python, Node.js, React, and Next.js, with a backend tilt but real interest in both sides
- Based in New York City or willing to move there for full-time on-site work
