JD — the work
About the role
This is the fourth full-time hire and the owner of the MEP vertical on an AI-native CAD platform in which every building component is defined in code so AI agents can reason about it. You would combine deep MEP expertise, especially HVAC, with real software skills: shaping where the MEP product goes, writing the acceptance criteria that AI agents are judged against, and checking what they produce. The founders want someone who acts like a co-founder, brings contrarian views, and finds the blind spots in their MEP strategy.
What you'll do
- Create libraries of MEP components (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, piping) on top of the company's code-based CAD engine
- Shape MEP product thinking: what good tooling looks like, where the gaps are, and what goes on the roadmap
- QA/QC designs produced by AI so they hold up against engineering norms and practical requirements
- Spend several hours a week with partner engineering firms, learning their processes, seeding libraries, and onboarding early users
- Code product features and MEP content bundles in Python and TypeScript with React, leaning on AI coding assistants for speed
What they're looking for
- 2 to 10 years of experience combining MEP engineering with software development
- Deep MEP domain knowledge, with HVAC as your strongest area
- Solid software engineering skills in Python and TypeScript/React
- Ability to judge AI-generated designs against real engineering standards
- A co-founder mindset: initiative, contrarian opinions, and ownership
- Willingness to work on-site in San Francisco
Nice to have
- Some experience writing C or C++ code
