About the role
You would be the second engineer at a small New York startup whose AI system runs growth for consumer brands and gets paid when those brands grow. The role is player-coach: you ship hands-on every day, mentor the founding engineer, and set much of the architecture and engineering culture. The customer base has been doubling month over month, and the work leans heavily toward backend and infrastructure.
What you'll do
- Build data infrastructure that logs each merchant's full event history and learns which actions drive results
- Create an agent-driven loop that reviews a brand's growth setup, picks the right changes, and applies them automatically
- Own the growth engine across the stack, spending most of your time on backend and infrastructure
- Ship dependable integrations with major e-commerce and social ad platforms, plus orchestration tooling
- Coach the first engineer while staying hands-on with code daily
- Help set the team's architecture and engineering norms from the start
