JD — the work
About the role
You would be a founding engineer building the software backbone of a composites factory: the system that runs the business from incoming raw stock through finished components, the simulation layer, and live factory automation. It is individual contributor work with no ticket queue, PM, or QA layer; you decide what matters and ship it, alongside experienced automation and hardware engineers. The aim is software that models the physical plant closely enough to predict and control it.
What you'll do
- Build the internal operating system that runs quoting, pricing, supply chain, inventory, and day-to-day operations
- Develop a simulation layer that uses shop-floor data to post-train AI models predicting how composite parts perform
- Own factory automation: stream equipment telemetry, coordinate robots, and run a round-the-clock digital twin of production
- Design backend systems whose data model mirrors the physical factory as it scales to very high volume
- Work like a product engineer: find the most important problem, own it end to end, and ship quickly
What they're looking for
- 2+ years shipping production software across the full stack
- TypeScript on the frontend and Python or Go on the backend
- A record of building complete products end to end in fast, ambiguous settings
- High agency and excitement about software that touches the physical world
- Willingness to work on-site in Los Angeles
Nice to have
- Background building software for manufacturing, or data engineering work
- Background in simulation, CAD, or computational geometry
