JD — the work
About the role
A senior version of the AI engineering role at an education-technology startup: lead the build-out of LLM-native features on a K-12 student-data platform — teacher-facing assistants, automated intervention flagging, natural-language analytics — with broad ownership of architecture and product direction.
What you'll do
- Lead design and delivery of AI features across the platform: assistants, report generation, NL query, flagging systems
- Stand up new products beyond the core platform — early-warning systems and new analytics/data products
- Own prompt design, retrieval architecture, and evaluation pipelines
- Build production AI infrastructure: evals, guardrails, monitoring, cost/latency trade-offs
- Set technical direction on model selection, fine-tuning vs prompting, build-vs-buy
- Champion student-data privacy and responsible AI practice
What they're looking for
- Strong applied-LLM track record with production ownership
- Data-science depth: statistical modeling, predictive analytics
- Comfort in a hands-on lead role at an early-stage company
