JD — the work

About the role

This is the company's first design hire, who will define the visual language and UX of its AI platform for planning how products get manufactured. You would own design across a complex, data-heavy application that mixes 3D CAD viewing and manipulation, authoring of structured data, and shop-floor workflows. You begin as an individual contributor producing work right away, and the role can grow into building and leading its own design team once the product extends to mobile and factory-floor use.

What you'll do

  • Run design from start to finish: user research, on-site factory visits, calls with customers, mocks, prototypes, and release
  • Create a visual language, reusable component library, and design system that give engineers clear, consistent direction
  • Unblock a fast engineering team with detailed Figma mocks and interactive prototypes, including React builds made with AI assistants
  • Design dense interfaces that pair legacy data like BOMs, routings, and work instructions with 3D CAD views
  • Keep sophisticated workflows easy to grasp for engineers and non-technical factory staff alike
  • Work daily with the CTO, PMs, and engineers on priorities, customer validation, and fast iteration toward version two

What they're looking for

  • 3 to 7 years of product design experience
  • Strong Figma skills and comfort prototyping in code with React, HTML, CSS, and TypeScript
  • Ability to own design end to end and ship without waiting for direction
  • Comfort running user research with customers, including visits to factory floors
  • Hybrid availability in New York or San Francisco
