JD — the work
About the role
You would build software that lets robots operate lab equipment as deftly as a person: handling biology tools, steering clear of collisions in busy, changing labs, and using vision feedback to correct their actions. The company is a well-funded startup with an engineering team of roughly 30, drawn from well-known robotics, aerospace, and tech companies, building an AI and robotics platform to speed up drug discovery. You would own significant pieces of the robot software and have real say over its direction.
What you'll do
- Write trajectory optimization and motion planning algorithms for robotic arms in crowded, changing labs
- Bring code up in simulation and on real robot hardware, testing and debugging until it runs reliably
- Apply computer vision so robots can handle consumables and equipment built for people
- Visit customer labs and work with their scientists to find pain points, design fixes, and lead deployments
- Simplify where possible and design the platform for scale and robustness
What they're looking for
- 2 to 5 years of robotics software engineering
- Experience with motion planning, trajectory optimization, or manipulation on robot arms
- Strong C++ and Python for robotics software
- Experience deploying software onto physical robots, not only simulators
- Comfort working directly with scientists and customers
