JD — the work

About the role

You would own and build core backend infrastructure for a B2B payments platform, covering data infrastructure, payment systems, and internal tools that directly shape business results. The role suits a high-agency engineer who likes taking untidy, practical problems and making them into dependable production systems, and who wants to own work fully at a fast-moving startup. The team is about 30 people and works on-site in San Francisco.

What you'll do

  • Build and own TypeScript and Node.js production services for payments and the core data layer
  • Define service interfaces, schemas, and contracts for other teams to depend on, with correctness first
  • Build internal tooling so colleagues can inspect data and see why decisions were made
  • Take ambiguous projects from problem definition to proposal, production slices, and iteration
  • Raise the speed, accuracy, and dependability of systems behind payment approvals and the customer experience

What they're looking for

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience
  • Prior backend work on payments systems or financial products
  • Strong TypeScript and Node.js; PostgreSQL, AWS, Snowflake, and Python are also in the stack
  • High agency and comfort owning ambiguous work end to end
