About the role
This is a generalist backend role at a small, venture-backed startup building AI that keeps a lasting record of what a company knows and decides, so context is not lost as the business grows. You would build LLM agents that work through huge volumes of untidy company data, own major technical calls, and work directly with the founders as enterprise pilots expand. The team has a handful of engineers, has a San Francisco office plus one in Canada, and is flexible about remote work.
What you'll do
- Own product features end to end, from scoping the problem through backend build and release
- Build LLM agents that stay trustworthy on noisy, real organizational data
- Decide on data models, system architecture, APIs, and tooling, and define the engineering quality standard
- Take on high-risk, high-impact projects independently with little hand-holding
- Help the founders set product direction, translating what customers need into working software
- Support expanding enterprise deployments at companies with hundreds or thousands of staff
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of backend engineering on customer-facing products, with strong Python
- Experience at a strong startup no later than Series B, or as a founder
- Product sense that links technical choices to business results
- A habit of asking why and driving projects to completion without oversight
- Comfort with ambiguity, fast iteration, and high ownership at a very early stage
