JD — the work
About the role
This role owns the foundations of a fast-growing banking platform that handles billions of dollars in card spend each year. You make sure systems stay dependable, secure, and quick, and you build the internal tools and abstractions that let other engineers ship fast and safely. You would chart where infrastructure goes next, decide how deployment, security, observability, and performance are handled, and tackle hard latency and scale challenges under bursty financial traffic.
What you'll do
- Grow the EKS-based Kubernetes platform, CockroachDB, Kafka on MSK, Temporal, and ElastiCache Redis as traffic climbs quickly
- Create Terraform and Pulumi abstractions that simplify the architecture and let product teams own more infrastructure
- Make CI/CD pipelines faster and more reliable
- Solve hard scaling, performance, and latency problems in a monolith that serves bursty financial traffic
- Bring solid cloud-native practices to S3, OpenSearch, Route 53, WAF, ALB, and Vercel
- Own the infrastructure roadmap and the key calls on security, deployment, and observability
What they're looking for
- 4+ years in infrastructure or platform engineering
- Deep experience running Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka, Redis, and PostgreSQL-compatible databases on AWS
- A record of solving scaling, latency, and reliability problems in high-traffic systems
- Comfort owning critical infrastructure decisions and working on-site in San Francisco
