About the role
A senior, hands-on IC role at a small AI company creating the core data and automation infrastructure for owners of large construction programs. You would write and run backend services in production, own architecture decisions, and coach less experienced engineers, and a realistic route to becoming Lead Engineer within about three to six months. The team runs an AI-native workflow and has grown engineering output substantially while keeping headcount lean, so everyone wears several hats.
What you'll do
- Build and run Python data pipelines and services on AWS serverless tools like Lambda and Step Functions
- Own major design and architecture choices, with AI coding assistants speeding up delivery
- Take features from backend to React frontend yourself, in a codebase that is about 90% backend
- Talk with customers and the field engineering team to learn their workflows, then turn vague asks into working product
- Coach newer engineers via reviews, pairing sessions, and design conversations
What they're looking for
- 5+ years as a software engineer with strong Python and hands-on AWS depth
- Past experience as a founding or very early engineer in B2B SaaS
- Happy to take on many roles at an early company, thinking like a product owner
