JD — the work
About the role
A developer-first infrastructure role, split about 60/40 between backend and infrastructure work, owning the code that runs each customer's persistent cloud environment behind the company's AI agent product. You would join two fast, high-output engineers on a problem with no established playbook, as the number of environments is set to grow several times over within weeks. It suits someone who learned infrastructure as an early startup's first hire, owning every layer, and who is genuinely excited about AI. The role is remote, based in Canada or Europe.
What you'll do
- Own the code that provisions VMs, rolls out container updates, and handles queues, monitoring, and security
- Grow the fleet of always-on customer environments several-fold in a matter of weeks
- Build dependable primitives for message queues, locks, background jobs, and service-bus patterns
- Extend the team's Pulumi-based infrastructure as code and set conventions others adopt
- Dig into Linux internals, container runtimes, networking, storage, and permissions when things break
- Release every week as part of a compact, cross-functional group
What they're looking for
- 6+ years of engineering experience with a backend-heavy, developer-first profile
- Strong application development skills; this is no conventional DevOps or SRE position
- A history of shipping production systems yourself at early-stage companies
- Hands-on Linux, container, and cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP; Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform)
- Real passion for AI and a liking for demanding, ownership-heavy teams
