About the role
Mortgage lenders still run on decades-old software that is slow, unstable, and expensive per loan. The company automates mortgage operations with AI-native software, aiming ultimately for loan origination with no manual steps, and its customers have already funded a very large volume of home loans. As a senior or staff engineer you would help lead the team, shipping to production on day one and taking on a mission-critical project within your first month. The skills below are a wish list, not a strict checklist.
What you'll do
- Design and ship multi-stage AI agents that help lenders digitize operations and save millions each year
- Integrate third-party lending APIs for document and disclosure generation, automated underwriting, and fraud prevention
- Rebuild the background job system on AWS so the backend is easier to observe and more dependable
- Work across a TypeScript codebase with React, Node/Express in Docker, GraphQL, and Postgres
- Benefit from strong developer experience: generated types from schemas, shared client and server code, and per-PR staging
- Coach junior teammates on technical craft and softer skills
What they're looking for
- 7+ years of software engineering, taking full-stack web features from design to deployment
- Cloud experience with distributed systems that handle heavy throughput
- Skill designing complex relational schemas and performant data access; a single mortgage holds thousands of fields
- A sharp eye for security, given how sensitive the stored personal data is
- Product instincts and readable, maintainable architecture that works for many enterprise customers
- An SRE-style mindset: reliable, observable systems that need minimal operational toil
Nice to have
- Experience turning unpredictable LLMs into reliable systems, including dataset curation, evals, and experiments
- Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or CloudFormation
