JD — the work
About the role
You would build and grow the distributed infrastructure that orchestrates very large numbers of microVMs each month on the company's own bare-metal machines worldwide. The company is scaling rapidly, compute capacity is set to roughly triple, and it is extending the same platform into agent sandboxes and background coding agents. This is a builder's role, not DevOps or SRE, on a small, strong team working in person five days a week in New York.
What you'll do
- Build and scale the systems that orchestrate microVMs across a global bare-metal fleet
- Own hard problems in networking, scheduling, and storage as compute capacity grows sharply
- Reason from first principles on tough infrastructure challenges with the founders and a small senior team
- Write fast, correct, dependable low-level code in Go, Rust, or C/C++
- Lead infrastructure projects from design to production that open the door to bigger enterprise deals and new products
- Use and coordinate coding agents heavily to move faster
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of hands-on work on low-level distributed systems at scale
- Meaningful zero-to-one infrastructure you built and owned at a well-known organization, not just maintained
- Distributed storage background (for example Ceph or MinIO) or comparable large data systems
- A strong IC who changes the direction of the team around you
- Comfort with ambiguity at a quickly scaling startup, and fluency with AI-assisted workflows
Nice to have
- Founding or early experience at a startup that became a recognized leader
- Conference talks, patents, or published work in systems
