About the role
A founding staff design role at a small AI company rebuilding go-to-market software from first principles. There is no inherited design system or established playbook: you would define how people direct the agent, the creative standards it follows, and the quality bar for its output, so that what it produces is something a strong seller would proudly send to a major account. The team is fully in-office in New York and iterates quickly across design, engineering, founders, and customers.
What you'll do
- Design the core surfaces where teams request, shape, review, edit, publish, and learn from AI-generated work
- Raise the agent's creative quality with engineering through better defaults, constraints, evals, and brand adherence
- Answer hard interaction questions, like how a seller steers an agent without project-managing it
- Shape product strategy and the roadmap with founders and engineers, prototyping ideas early
- Encode good taste into systems and feedback loops so output quality compounds
- Help reinvent the working model between designers, PMs, and engineers at an AI-first company
What they're looking for
- 5+ years of product design, with real shipped products people use, not just polished case studies
- Very high taste you can articulate, including why an AI-generated asset feels generic
- Daily hands-on work with AI tools, quick prototyping, and curiosity about interaction models beyond old SaaS habits
- Systems thinking paired with care for pixel-level detail, from strategy down to loading states
- Comfort with ambiguity and being early, and the candor to push back on founders and engineers constructively
