JD — the work
About the role
Join the frontend team behind the company's defense product line, building the web applications that military and government users depend on every day. You would turn dense, data-heavy workflows such as shared operational maps, alert triage queues, and ML-assisted resource planning into interfaces that non-technical people find approachable. The work moves between talking with users, designing UX with teammates, and shipping incremental features, with problems ranging from 2D and 3D geospatial views to real-time collaboration and high-volume graphics rendering. This is an on-site role in Washington, DC.
What you'll do
- Architect and build data-rich interfaces that make complex analytical work usable by non-engineers
- Talk with users directly to learn what they need and where the product falls short
- Scope technical designs and find incremental paths to ship new features
- Own the APIs and schemas behind your frontend code, co-designing them with backend engineers
- Develop large-scale collaborative mapping tools and shared-workspace frameworks that tie many applications together
- Work across the full lifecycle, from early ideas and prototypes to production releases
What they're looking for
- 2+ years of professional frontend engineering
- Strong TypeScript, React, and JavaScript skills, plus a solid grasp of how the web works
- CS degree or comparable grounding in algorithms, systems design, and performance
- Clear, effective communication in both writing and conversation
- Eligible for US security clearance and willing to go through the process
Nice to have
- Experience shipping quality software in a fast-moving CI/CD environment
- Comfort iterating with designers and users as goals shift
- Track record of picking up new technologies quickly and working with little supervision
- Familiarity with build tooling such as Webpack, Gradle, and CircleCI
